be. grateful.
No, no, it’s not Thanksgiving. But, does it need to be Thanksgiving in order for us to count our blessings?  People spend a lot of time asking for things, wanting things, and complaining about what they don’t yet have.  It’s ok to want more, if we were always 100 percent satisfied with what was we wouldn’t create or innovate, which would keep life stagnant.  However, I think that all too often we don’t allow ourselves to be satisfied with what is.  It’s not healthy to live life as if it’s a race where we never reach the finish line.  We need to enjoy the journey and realize how lucky we are.

There are plenty of things to be grateful for everyday.  It’s especially important to try and remember this when things aren’t going our way.  If we focus on the positive aspects of our life we attract more and it gives us energy to fix what we are not satisfied with.

Studies prove that living a life filled with gratitude makes us healthier, happier people.  Here are 5 important reasons to practice gratitude daily:

You sleep better.  A study from the journal “Applied Psychology: Health and Well-being” explains that before going to bed you should make a list of what you are grateful for before because it helps you fall asleep faster and for a longer period of time.
Boosts heart health.  A study in the American Journal of Cardiology shows that appreciation is linked with a healthily heart.
Promotes immune system health.  WebMD reports that being grateful makes you more optimistic, which in turn, boots immune health.
It makes you a better friend.  The journal of “Personality and Social Psychology” features a study that shows that being grateful inspires you to help others and lend emotional support to loved ones.
Reduces stress.  WebMD explains that gratitude  reduced stress because it helps you feel more connected to other human beings.

So start today; be fully grateful for whatever it is that makes you smile.   Try to be aware that no matter what happens there is always a blessing that you can appreciate form the situation.  If this is hard for you in this moment I suggest that every night before you go to bed you try and write just five things, people, or events that you appreciate.  It’s sure to send you on your way to more fulfilling, peaceful, and love-full life.
